Bahia

photo of horses on Bahia grass

is used mainly in large fields
as well as on right of ways for streets and highways. It is probably one of the least used grasses for homeowners. Bahia is drought tolerant with a very deep root system, this allows the grass to get the water it needs from deep in the ground, and this root system also makes it very cold tolerant. Bahia re-seeds itself with a double head seedpod that spreads the seed during cutting. (More information.)
